Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf is a delicious twist on the classic meatloaf, combining the flavors of a Philly cheesesteak sandwich with the comfort of a meatloaf. Here’s a recipe to help you prepare it:
Ingredients:
For the Meatloaf:
- 1 pound ground beef (you can also use a mix of ground beef and ground pork)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
For the Filling:
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 cup sliced provolone or American cheese (or Cheese Whiz for a more authentic Philly cheesesteak flavor)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, chopped bell pepper, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, and milk. Mix well to combine.
- Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, dried oregano, dried thyme, dried basil, and paprika to the meat mixture. Mix until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
- On a piece of wax paper or aluminum foil, flatten the meat mixture into a rectangular shape, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Layer the sliced mushrooms and cheese over the flattened meat mixture, leaving about a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Carefully roll up the meatloaf, using the wax paper or aluminum foil to help guide the rolling. Press the edges to seal the meatloaf.
- Place the rolled meatloaf seam-side down in a baking dish or on a baking sheet.
- Bake the meatloaf in the preheated oven for about 45-55 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and the meat is cooked through.
- Once the meatloaf is cooked, remove it from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Slice the meatloaf into portions and serve warm. The melted cheese and savory flavors make it a perfect dish on its own, but you can also serve it with additional sautéed mushrooms, onions, and peppers if desired.
Enjoy your delicious Philly Cheesesteak Meatloaf!
