Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient Sausage Tortellini Soup

Slow Cooker 5-Ingredient Sausage Tortellini Soup

There’s something about a slow cooker soup simmering all day that just feels like home. This Sausage Tortellini Soup became one of those recipes I turn to when life is busy but I still want dinner to feel warm, comforting, and special. I remember the first time I made it—it was one of those days when the weather turned cold unexpectedly, and everyone was craving something creamy and filling. I didn’t want to spend hours in the kitchen, so I grabbed a few simple ingredients, browned some sausage, and let the slow cooker take over.

As the hours passed, the kitchen filled with the rich aroma of Italian sausage and tomato sauce gently bubbling away. By the time I added the tortellini and cream, the soup had transformed into this thick, hearty meal that looked like it had taken much more effort than it actually did. It’s the kind of soup that brings everyone to the kitchen asking, “Is it ready yet?” and always ends with empty bowls and requests for seconds.

What I love most about this recipe is how effortless it is. With just five ingredients, it delivers big flavor and that cozy, restaurant-style comfort right at home. It’s perfect for busy weeknights, lazy weekends, or anytime you want a meal that feels like a hug in a bowl—especially when served with crusty bread and enjoyed around the table with family.

Ingredients (5 only)

  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or hot)

  • 1 (25 oz) bag frozen cheese tortellini

  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce

  • 4 cups chicken broth

  • 2 cups heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Brown the Italian sausage in a skillet, breaking it up. Drain excess grease.

  2. Add sausage, marinara sauce, and chicken broth to the slow cooker.

  3. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours.

  4. Stir in frozen tortellini and heavy cream during the last 30–40 minutes.

  5. Cook until tortellini is tender. Stir well and serve hot.

Note

  • Want extra flavor? Use hot Italian sausage.

  • Too thick? Add a splash of broth before serving.

  • Garnish with Parmesan or fresh basil if you like (optional, not counted).
