It started as a lazy Sunday. I didn’t want to turn on the oven, but I did want the comforting smell of fresh bread wafting through the house. With just a can of beer and some self-rising flour, I threw together this ridiculously easy beer bread in my slow cooker—and the result? A soft, hearty loaf with a golden crust and a rich, malty flavor. It’s the kind of bread you make once and then crave forever. No kneading, no fuss—just two ingredients and a little patience.
Ingredients:
3 cups self-rising flour
1 (12 oz) can of beer (regular, not light)
Optional: Add a tablespoon of sugar or a handful of shredded cheese for a twist.
Instructions:
Prepare your slow cooker: Line it with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
Mix the dough: In a large bowl, stir together the self-rising flour and beer until just combined. Don’t overmix—lumps are fine!
Add to slow cooker: Pour the dough into the prepared slow cooker and smooth the top with a spatula.
Cook on High: Cover with a paper towel under the lid (to catch condensation), and cook on HIGH for 2 to 2½ hours, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Finish (optional): For a crispier crust, place the cooked loaf under the broiler for 2–3 minutes after removing it from the slow cooker.
Cool: Let it cool for 15 minutes before slicing.
Serving Ideas:
This bread is perfect alongside chili, soups, or just slathered with butter and honey.
