With a hint of garlic and paprika, and an optional panko crunch, they’re easy to make and packed with flavor. Serve them with a squeeze of lemon and your favorite dipping sauce for an irresistible dish that’s ready in minutes!

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 5 medium potatoes (peeled and sliced thin)
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 2 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of cheddar soup (or cheddar cheese soup
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (optional)
  • Fresh parsley or green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 8×12-inch casserole dish or baking dish.

Prepare the Ground Beef:

  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat (optional, for extra flavor). Add the chopped onions and sauté until they are translucent (about 3-4 minutes).
  • Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Add the ground beef and cook until it’s browned. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Drain any excess fat.

Prepare the Potatoes:

  • Peel and slice the potatoes thinly (about 1/8-inch thick slices). You can use a mandolin or knife for uniform slices.

Mix the Sauces:

  • In a medium bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, cream of cheddar soup, and milk. Stir until smooth.

Assemble the Casserole:

  • In the greased casserole dish, arrange a layer of sliced potatoes.
  • Spread a portion of the cooked ground beef mixture on top.
  • Pour some of the soup mixture over the beef.
  • Sprinkle about 1/3 of the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  • Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a final layer of shredded cheddar cheese.

Bake:

Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 60-70 minutes until the potatoes are tender. You can test by inserting a fork.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes to brown the cheese on top.
Garnish and Serve:

Let the casserole cool slightly, and garnish with fresh parsley or chopped green onions if desired.
Serve warm and enjoy!

  • You can add extra vegetables like peas, carrots, or corn for more texture.
  • If you prefer, swap the ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
