Fried Bologna Sandwiches are a simple and delicious comfort food. Here’s a straightforward recipe for making them:

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bologna (thick cut preferred)
  • 3 slices of bread (white or your choice)
  • 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine
  • 3 slices of cheese (American, cheddar, or your choice)
  • Mustard and/or mayonnaise (optional)
  • Lettuce, tomato, and pickles (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Bologna:
    • Use a knife to make 2-3 small cuts around the edges of each slice of bologna. This prevents the bologna from curling up too much while frying.
  2. Fry the Bologna:
    • Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
    • Add a small amount of butter or margarine to the skillet.
    • Once the butter is melted and the skillet is hot, add the bologna slices.
    • Fry the bologna slices for about 2-3 minutes on each side, until they are browned and slightly crispy. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Toast the Bread:
    • In the same skillet, add more butter if needed and toast the bread slices until golden brown. You can toast one side or both sides according to your preference.

  1. Assemble the Sandwich:
    • Place a slice of cheese on one piece of toasted bread.
    • Add the fried bologna on top of the cheese.
    • If using, spread mustard and/or mayonnaise on the other piece of bread.
    • Optionally, add lettuce, tomato, and pickles.
    • Top the sandwich with the second piece of bread.
  2. Serve:
    • Serve the sandwich warm and enjoy!

Tips:

  • For extra flavor, you can add grilled onions or a fried egg to the sandwich.
  • Experiment with different types of cheese to find your favorite combination.
  • If you prefer a spicier version, try adding a slice of jalapeno or using spicy mustard.
