For the Ricotta layer:

  • 1 container (15 ounces) ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the Lasagna Noodles:
    • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente.
    • Drain the noodles and rinse them under cold water to prevent sticking. Set them aside.
  3. Prepare the Meat Sauce:
    • In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
    • Add the ground Italian sausage or beef to the skillet. Cook it until browned and fully cooked.
    • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. Prepare the Ricotta Layer:
    • In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.

  1. Assemble the Pizzagna:
    • In a large baking dish (9×13 inches), spread a thin layer of the meat sauce at the bottom.
    • Place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce.
    • Spread half of the ricotta mixture evenly over the noodles.
    • Add another layer of noodles on top of the ricotta layer.
    • Spread half of the pizza sauce over the noodles.
    • Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese and your favorite pizza toppings over the sauce.
    • Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients, ending with a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  1. Bake the Pizzagna:
    • Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes.
    • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese on top is melted and bubbly, and the lasagna is heated through.
  2. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Let the Pizzagna cool slightly before serving. Cut into portions and serve with a side salad or garlic bread for a complete meal.

Enjoy your homemade Pizzagna! It’s a delightful twist on traditional lasagna and a perfect way to combine the flavors of pizza and pasta into one delicious dish.
