For the cake layer:
1 box yellow cake mix (plus eggs, oil, water per box instructions)
For the cheesecake layer:
2 (8 oz) packages cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup sour cream
For the chocolate ganache:
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tbsp butter (optional, for shine)
🔧 Instructions
1. Prepare the Cake Layer:
Bake one 9-inch round yellow cake layer according to box instructions.
Let it cool completely and level the top if needed.
2. Make the Cheesecake:
Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Grease a 9-inch springform pan.
Beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
Stir in vanilla and sour cream.
Pour into prepared pan and bake for 45–50 minutes, until the center is nearly set.
Cool completely, then refrigerate 4+ hours (or overnight).
3. Assemble:
Place the cake layer on a serving plate.
Carefully remove cheesecake from the springform pan and place it on top of the cake layer.
4. Ganache Topping:
Heat cream until hot but not boiling. Pour over chocolate chips.
Let sit 2 minutes, then stir until smooth. Add butter if using.
Let cool slightly, then pour over cheesecake, letting it drip down the sides.
🥄 Chill & Serve
Refrigerate until ganache is set, then slice and enjoy!
