1½ to 2 lbs beef sirloin or round steak, thinly sliced into strips
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup beef broth
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes (with juice)
2 bell peppers (green, red, or both), sliced
1 medium onion, sliced

1 tablespoon cornstarch + 1 tablespoon water (optional, for thickening)

Brown the meat (optional but recommended):
