It’s the kind of meal that brings everyone to the table—warm, filling, and full of flavor. Whether you’re feeding a crowd or just want delicious leftovers, this is spaghetti done the Chicago way.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb spaghetti

  • 1 lb ground beef or Italian sausage

  • 1 small onion, chopped

  • 2–3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce or homemade sauce

  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning

  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper (optional)

  • 1 cup ricotta or cottage cheese

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella

  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan

  • Olive oil

  • Salt & pepper

Instructions:

  1. Cook spaghetti in salted water until al dente. Drain and drizzle with olive oil to prevent sticking.

  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground meat with chopped onion until browned. Add garlic, cook 1 min.

  3. Stir in marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes. Simmer 10 minutes.

  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  5. In a greased 9×13 baking dish, layer:

    • Half the spaghetti

    • All of the ricotta/cottage cheese

    • Half the meat sauce

    • Half the mozzarella

    • Repeat layers: spaghetti, sauce, mozzarella

    • Top with Parmesan

  6. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes or until bubbly and golden.

  7. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Note:
This dish is perfect for make-ahead meals! Assemble it earlier in the day, cover, and refrigerate until you’re ready to bake. You can also freeze it before or after baking—just thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating. Feel free to customize with your favorite add-ins like mushrooms, green peppers, or spicy sausage for an extra kick.
