Cherry bars recipe

Sure! Here’s a recipe for delicious cherry bars:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
  • Optional: powdered sugar for dusting

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, softened butter, powdered sugar, almond extract, and salt. Mix until the dough comes together and forms a crumbly texture.
  3. Take about 1 1/2 cups of the crumb mixture and set it aside for later use as the topping.
  4. Press the remaining crumb mixture into the greased baking dish, ensuring an even layer on the bottom.
  5. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the crust layer.
  6. Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture evenly over the cherry pie filling. Gently press it down to adhere to the filling.

  1. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  2. Remove the cherry bars from the oven and allow them to cool completely in the baking dish.
  3. Once cooled, you can dust the top with powdered sugar for a finishing touch.
  4. Cut into squares or rectangles and serve.

These cherry bars can be enjoyed on their own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
