CORNISH BEEF PASTIES

Sure! Here’s a recipe for Cornish Beef Pasties:

Ingredients: For the pastry:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 6-8 tablespoons ice-cold water

For the filling:

  • 1 pound beef steak, cut into small cubes
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 carrot, peeled and diced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cubed butter and rub it into the flour mixture using your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Gradually add the cold water, one tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overmix. Form the dough into a ball, cover it with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, prepare the filling. In a separate bowl, combine the beef, diced onion, potatoes, carrot, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly coated.

  1. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about ⅛-inch thickness. Using a large circular cutter (about 8-10 inches in diameter), cut out rounds from the dough.
  2. Place a generous amount of the beef filling onto one half of each dough round, leaving a border around the edge. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape.
  3. Using your fingers, crimp the edges of the pasties to seal them. You can also use a fork to press down and seal the edges.
  4. Place the pasties on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops of the pasties with beaten egg wash to give them a golden color when baked.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the pasties are golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Remove from the oven and allow the pasties to cool for a few minutes before serving. They can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.

Cornish Beef Pasties are a delicious meal on their own, but you can also serve them with a side salad or pickles for added flavor.

Enjoy!
