Ground Beef Casserole

To prepare a ground beef casserole, you can follow this simple recipe:


  • 1 pound (450g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14 ounces/400g)
  • 1 can tomato sauce (8 ounces/227g)
  • 1 cup (240ml) beef broth
  • 1 cup (190g) uncooked rice
  • 1 cup (120g) shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Optional toppings:

  • Chopped fresh parsley
  • Grated Parmesan cheese


  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet or frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until they become translucent and fragrant.
  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up into smaller pieces with a spatula or wooden spoon.
  4. Once the beef is cooked, drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  5. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5 minutes to let the flavors combine.
  6. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread the uncooked rice evenly across the bottom.

  1. Pour the ground beef and tomato mixture over the rice, making sure to cover the rice completely.
  2. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven.
  3. Bake for approximately 45 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the casserole is hot and bubbly.
  4. Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the casserole. Return it to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and turned golden.
  5. Once cooked, remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
  6. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
