Here’s a recipe for homemade turtle candy with pecans and caramel:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup pecan halves
- 1 cup soft caramels, unwrapped
- 1 cup chocolate chips (dark or milk)
- Sea salt (optional, for garnish)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Arrange the pecan halves in clusters of three on the prepared baking sheet, creating a base for your turtle candies.
- Place one unwrapped caramel on top of each pecan cluster. Make sure the pecans are touching the caramel to hold it in place.
- Bake the pecan-caramel clusters in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes or until the caramels have softened.
- Remove the baking sheet from the oven and press each caramel down gently with the back of a spoon to flatten it slightly.
- Let the pecan-caramel clusters cool completely on the baking sheet.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth and fully melted.
- Using a spoon or fork, carefully dip each pecan-caramel cluster into the melted chocolate, ensuring it is fully coated.
- Return the chocolate-covered turtles to the parchment-lined baking sheet.
- If desired, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top of each turtle for a touch of saltiness.
- Allow the chocolate to set at room temperature or place the baking sheet in the refrigerator to speed up the process.
- Once the chocolate has hardened, your homemade turtle candies with pecans and caramel are ready to be enjoyed!
Note: You can store the turtle candies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
