Texas Sheet Cake

Texas Sheet Cake is a classic dessert that is loved by many. Here’s a recipe to prepare it:


  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 3 and 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with butter or cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Mix well and set aside.

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter. Add the water and cocoa powder and whisk until the mixture comes to a boil.
  2. Pour the chocolate mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients and stir until well combined.
  3. Add the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract to the mixture and whisk until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  5. While the cake is baking, make the frosting. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter. Add the cocoa powder and milk and whisk until the mixture comes to a boil.
  6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until the frosting is smooth.

  2. Pour the frosting over the warm cake and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  3. Allow the cake to cool completely before slicing and serving.
