Here’s a recipe for a classic chocolate cake that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser:

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled (or 1 cup boiling water)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper.

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the eggs, buttermilk, coffee, oil, and vanilla extract to the bowl. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes. The batter will be thin.
  3. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

  1. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before removing them from the pans and placing them on wire racks to cool completely.
  2. Once the cakes are cooled, you can frost them with your favorite frosting or icing. Enjoy!

Note: If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, you can make a substitute by combining 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice with 1 cup of milk. Let the mixture sit for 5 to 10 minutes, or until it thickens and curdles slightly.
