Here’s a recipe for a classic chocolate cake that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled (or 1 cup boiling water)
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line the bottoms with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the eggs, buttermilk, coffee, oil, and vanilla extract to the bowl. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes. The batter will be thin.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before removing them from the pans and placing them on wire racks to cool completely.
- Once the cakes are cooled, you can frost them with your favorite frosting or icing. Enjoy!
Note: If you don’t have buttermilk on hand, you can make a substitute by combining 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice with 1 cup of milk. Let the mixture sit for 5 to 10 minutes, or until it thickens and curdles slightly.
