Fried Green Tomatoes

Here’s a recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes:


  • 4 green tomatoes
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • Vegetable oil for frying


  1. Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
  2. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. In another shallow dish, whisk together the milk and egg.
  4. Heat about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Dip each tomato slice into the milk and egg mixture, then coat it in the flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour mixture.

  1. Carefully place the coated tomato slices into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  2. Remove the fried green tomatoes from the skillet with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess oil.
  3. Serve the fried green tomatoes hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
