  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

For the icing:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar


  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Grease a 15 x 10-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add water and cocoa powder and bring to a boil.
