Homemade Krispy Kremes

Homemade Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Recipe:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp. instant yeast
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • Vegetable oil for frying

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and water over low heat until warm.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and add the softened butter. Mix until combined.
  4. Add the milk mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Add the egg mixture to the dough and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
  6. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm, draft-free area for 1 hour.

  1. Punch the dough down and roll it out to 1/2 inch thickness.
  2. Cut the dough into doughnuts using a doughnut cutter or two round cookie cutters.
  3. Place the doughnuts on a lightly floured baking sheet and cover with a damp cloth. Let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 375°F.
  5. Gently place the doughnuts in the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the doughnuts with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel.
  7. For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a medium bowl until smooth.
  8. Dip each doughnut in the glaze and place on a wire rack to let excess glaze drip off.
  9. Let the glaze set for about 10-15 minutes before serving.
