Here’s a recipe for a heavenly cake that is sure to impress!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup chocolate chips
For the frosting:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- In another mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Add the boiling water to the batter and mix until well combined. The batter will be thin, but don’t worry, this is normal!
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
- Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes.
- Remove the cakes from the pans and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.
- While the cakes are cooling, make the frosting. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy.
- Add the powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt, and beat until well combined and creamy.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, spread a generous layer of frosting on top of one cake.
- Place the second cake on top of the first and frost the entire cake.
- Decorate the cake with additional chocolate chips, if desired.
