Lasagna is a classic Italian dish made of layers of pasta, tomato sauce, cheese, and often meat or vegetables. Here is a recipe for traditional lasagna:

  • 1 pound of ground beef (or a combination of ground beef and pork)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 jar of tomato sauce
  • 1 can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of chopped fresh basil
  • 1 package of lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound of ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces with a wooden spoon.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add the jar of tomato sauce, can of crushed tomatoes, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the chopped fresh basil.

  1. While the sauce is simmering, cook the lasagna noodles according to the package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, and 1 egg. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. To assemble the lasagna, spread a thin layer of the tomato sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Place a layer of cooked lasagna noodles on top of the sauce, overlapping slightly.
  4. Spread a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture on top of the noodles, using a spatula to spread it evenly.
  5. Spoon a layer of the tomato sauce on top of the ricotta cheese mixture, spreading it evenly.

  1. Repeat the layers of noodles, ricotta cheese mixture, and tomato sauce until you have used all the ingredients, ending with a layer of tomato sauce.
  2. Sprinkle the remaining shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese on top of the lasagna.
  3. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  4. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the lasagna is heated through.
  5. Let the lasagna cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
