Oven Country White Bread

Here is a recipe for Oven Country White Bread that yields one large loaf:

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (110-115°F)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Cornmeal (for dusting)

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix well.
  2. Add the warm water and olive oil to the bowl. Stir until a dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Once the dough has risen, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a large loaf. Dust a baking sheet with cornmeal and place the loaf on the sheet.
  3. Use a sharp knife to make a few shallow cuts in the top of the loaf.
  4. Bake the bread for about 30-35 minutes, or until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  5. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
